Here in Manchester we have a skyline of cranes and new build luxury tower blocks. Plastered everywhere just north of the centre is the slogan ‘Putting the soul back in to Manchester’. But who really creates a city’s soul?
Working Class Heroes explores heritage, identity and community. Supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, we explore how rapid urban change can affect peoples' sense of security and belonging? Do we give enough consideration to existing communities when bringing in the bulldozers in the name of "redevelopment"? And how do working class young people today connect with the experiences of previous generations?
The project has produced an in depth documentary, a heritage map and a downloadable podcast.
